PASTOR’S PORTION:

Joe, my son, is a youth pastor in Mosinee , WI .  He has been working on his Master’s degree from Moody Bible Institute.  Recently he has been feeding me information about books that have impacted his life and ministry.  One of those books is called Created To Learn by William Yount.  Mr. Yount  explores the theories of education that abound in our society and then brings it back to the Word and evaluates these theories.  (You may not have realized there were “theories” of education, believe me they abound).

These theories usually start off with some presuppositions.  A presupposition is a “belief” about the way things are.  For instance if a person has a presupposition that people are like animals and respond only selfishly then your educational style will reflect that.  Or if you believe people are good from the outset or unable to change that will be reflected in the way you teach.

Paul writes about an educational philosophy in 2 Timothy.  Chapter 2 verse 2 says,  “And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others.  Endure hardship …” And again later in 2 Timothy 2 verse 15, “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.”    So you see Paul has an educational philosophy.  Let me draw a few points for us.

1.      “Things” abound that need to be passed on to those around us.  Ben, our son in South Africa tells the heart ache of children whose parents have died from AIDS.  Now children are raising children.  These children are not passing on “things” that matter.  They are so caught up with survival that the basic “things” of getting along in society are not being taught.

2.      “Entrust to reliable men” is a concept that our teaching is not just passing of facts but it is for life change.  “Reliable,” or faithful as the King James say, is a character quality that needs to be recognized and groomed.

3.      “Teach others -- Endure hardship” and also from verse 15 the idea of “workman” emphasizes the point that teaching is hard work. I praise the Lord for our CBC, Sunday School teachers and small group leaders.  It is not easy work, but these have taken it on and Paul says we are to honor them (1 Tim 5:17).

4.      “Correctly handles the word of truth” points out that the teaching can be wrong and we are expected to do it right.  Our new PA system instructor pointed out if your turn on the PA system is the wrong way you can do serious damage to that system.   So it is if we do not correctly handle truth it can spoil a life.

The reason I bring this out in May is we have a number of graduates from Doctrine and High School.  These students have worked hard but I want to make sure we let it be known that graduation does not end our need to grow and learn.  May we all be an examples of learning, gaining knowledge and living out those truths.

SUNDAY SCHOOL

Sunday School is winding down and will be coming to an end before you know it.  We will be awarding students for Perfect quarterly memory and attendance as well as Perfect yearly memory and attendance.  We will also have a special award for any student who in 1 setting is able to say all the verses for the entire year.  I know last year no one did it.  Will anyone step up to the challenge, we will have to wait and see.  Please don't let the beautiful weather keep you away, still plenty to learn and share with others.

Coached By Christ

The Lord is Wonderful and has blessed CBC this year. Our Theme verse this year was I Corinthians 9:24  "Do you not know that in a race all the runners run but only one gets the prize?  Run in such a way as to get the prize."  This was used in our Grand Prix as an Olympic theme and many great cars were created.
We had a goal this year of 50 books completed and as we didn't quite reach that, 41 books were completed by 35 different clubbers.  Praise God for the great things that he has done and is doing.
This year we had 122 different clubbers complete 2157 sections and commit hundreds of verses to memory  We had 1 clubber finish all three Panda books this year, Tristen Harder.  Hannah Paschke, Karlee Sigurdsen, Meg Peterson and Larissa Fossum completed all 3 Junior Varsity books.  Ben Putney completed the first 3 Varsity Books.  This year Cora Bruxvoort completed the final 2 books, totaling all her books to 12 and earning the Ambassador Award.  Clubbers of the year were Panda, 1st place - Jonathon Fossum, 2nd place - Ian Shoebridge, 3rd place - Tristen Harder;  Junior Varsity, 1st place - Larissa Fossum, 2nd place - Ethan Harder, 3rd place - Karlee Sigurdsen;  Varsity, 1st place - Cora Bruxvoort, 2nd place - Sarah Heinze, 3rd place Cassie Putney.  We had 11 clubbers with perfect attendance for the year.
We ended the year with the book finishers outing at Skate America and 31 clubbers and 13 leaders and parents had a great evening out.
We are already looking ahead to next year and what we can do to improve and draw more kids in.  We would like you do 2 things.  1.  Pray and ask God how He would like you to be apart and help out.  2.  Pray for the clubbers over the summer that they will use what they have learned.
We would like to say a special THANK YOU to all of you who took the time to pray for CBC, the Lord really worked in lives this year.

Senior High Youth Group!!

Another month has come and gone for the Bloomer Baptist Senior High Youth Group.  In the last month we’ve talked about things dealing with hypocrisy, putting trust in the Lord rather than yourself, pride, as well as alcohol and drugs.  We have also been working on planning our mission’s trip to Arrowhead Bible Camp this summer where we will go for a week to learn about service and have a little fun enjoying the beautiful setting that Arrowhead provides.  Our talent show fundraiser is coming up on May 3 and we are very excited about that.  The youth have some great talents to show off and I for one am excited to see what they have in store for this year.  We are also planning on going to see the newest Chronicles of Narnia movie in the middle of May.  Our numbers have been great, we are averaging around 20 or so youth every Wednesday and they all have quality input.  It’s always great to see someone who may not have had a lot to say the week before step up the following week and have a ton of great input for that week’s discussion.  Please continue to pray for Michelle and I as we lead the group!

Duane and Jackie Shoebridge have given a challenge to us to pay off the debt on our building.  This May most of us will be receiving a $300-$1200 stimulus check from the government.  If each of us would give that to retire our loan it would be a blessing.  $40,000 given now would be equal to nearly $80,000 in principle and interest!
